Dyson Airwrap™ Curling Tips & Tricks

The Dyson Airwrap™ uses fundamentally different technology from conventional curling irons. Coanda airflow wraps and holds hair around the styling barrel, creating smooth curls and waves with air, not extreme heat.¹

There are several reasons why your Dyson Airwrap™ curls may not hold: 

• Hair texture: Straight, heavy or fine hair may require additional preparation for optimal curl retention. 

• Temperature settings: To make Dyson Airwrap™ curls last, the temperature and airflow combination must match your hair type. 

• Styling products: Not using styling products (e.g. pre- and post-style creams and serums, heat protectant and hairspray) can compromise curl definition and durability. 

• Styling technique: If they aren’t blow-dried for long enough or cooled sufficiently, your Dyson Airwrap™ curls may not last. 

Proper preparation is essential – this helps your Dyson Airwrap™ styles last throughout the day. 

For optimal styling with the Dyson Airwrap™, begin with towel- or air-dried hair that’s approximately 80% dry. You can use the fast dryer attachment first to create a smooth foundation.

To make your Dyson Airwrap™ curls last, always use the right styling products. Apply a lightweight leave-in product, like Dyson Chitosan™ Pre-style cream, to the mid-lengths and ends.

Next, divide your hair into clearly defined sections. Precise sectioning allows for controlled styling and enhances curl definition; the more sections you have, the more likely your curls are to last.

Now it's time to curl. Choose between the Dyson Airwrap™ 30mm and 40mm curling barrels, based on your desired result: 

• 30mm barrel: Creates more defined, classic curls 
• 40mm barrel: Creates softer, volumised waves, with a professional blowout effect 

Selecting the appropriate temperature and airflow intensity can improve the longevity of your Dyson Airwrap™ curls. For a directional and flattering style, rotate the barrel away from your face. It’s best to adjust the direction of airflow in front of the mirror. Fine, thick or straight hair typically requires the highest temperature and airflow settings for maximum curl definition. 

Activate your Dyson Airwrap™ and hold a section of hair between your thumb and forefinger; Coanda airflow automatically wraps hair around the styling barrel.  

Keep each section wrapped in place for at least 15 seconds before activating the cool shot to set the curl structure. Repeat this process throughout all sections.   

For the final step, allow curls to cool completely for 15 minutes. For a softer style, carefully separate curls using a wide-tooth comb.

• Pre-styling preparation: Avoid oil-based products before styling, as they can create a silky texture and reduce curl retention. 
• Pin-setting technique: While they’re still warm, secure your Airwrap™ curls with sectioning clips and let them cool in their wrapped position. 
• Product application: Apply pre- and post-styling products sparingly, as excessive products can weigh down the hair, causing your curls to drop quickly. 
• Strategic cutting: Consider a layered haircut to enhance movement and curl retention. Shoulder-length styles generally hold curl definition better than longer lengths. 
• Minimal disruption: Avoid touching or repositioning styled hair, as this can stretch out curls and reduce definition.
