Check the turbo head
The red light warns that the Brush bar is obstructed. Turn power off and remove obstruction.
Check if red light is flashing. If not there may still be a blockage within the floor tool.

Undo the soleplate fasteners at each end of the Motorhead floor tool with a coin to remove the soleplate underneath. Turn the turbo brush over so that you are looking at the base where the Brush bar is.
Carefully use a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibres from the Brush bar ensuring you do not cut off any bristles on the Brush bar.
Check for blockages and remove as necessary.
Reassemble and test the machine.

Test the suction
A whistle suggests that air is escaping due to a missing seal or blockage.
Remove the floor tool from the extension tube by pressing the release catch on the end of the extension tube.
Press the release catch on the extension tube to extend fully, ensuring it 'clicks' into place.
Place your hand over the end of the extension tube and test the suction.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?
A safety notice applies to the DC05 Motorhead. Ensure you are aware of the safety notice before proceeding with any support.
Checking the turbo head
A red light warns that the Brush bar is obstructed. Turn power off and remove obstruction.
If there is no red light there may still be a blockage within the floor tool.

Undo the soleplate fasteners at each end of the Motorhead floor tool with a coin to remove the soleplate underneath. Turn the turbo brush over so that you are looking at the base where the Brush bar is.
Carefully use a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibres from the Brush bar ensuring you do not cut off any bristles on the Brush bar.

Wash the filter
Wash both parts in cold water only.
WARNING: Do not use detergent. Do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.
Repeat until the water runs clear.

Dry filter
Leave the filter to dry in a warm place for 24 hours, until completely dry.
Do not dry the filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven or near a naked flame.

Reassemble the machine
Replace the filter and reassemble the machine.

Thermal cut out
Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.
Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Using the cable
Ensure the machine is switched off.
Unplug the machine before rewinding the cable.
If the cable does not rewind, firmly pull it out and fully extend it until the red tape is visible.
The cord rewind button needs to be pressed down firmly to retract the cord for storage after use. When the button is pressed down far enough you should feel and hear a click, and the cord will retract.

How to change the Wand handle batteries
The Wand has two AA batteries used to power the ON/OFF controls.
The battery cover is at the front of the Wand handle.

Use a flat head screw driver to undo the cover. Remove batteries and replace.

- Brush bar and suction on.
- Brush bar only, suction off.
- Less suction.
Hold the plug when rewinding onto cable reel. Do not allow the plug to whip when rewinding.
Using the cable
To retract the cable, press the button firmly until it clicks and the cable rewinds.

Attach the tools
Attach the tools directly to the Wand or extension tube.
Serial number location
The serial number can be found on the rating plate, underneath the machine, between the two wheels.

Assembling your Dyson machine
Attach the hose to the hose retainer clip onto the front of the machine.

Clip the Wand handle to the extension tube.
Clip the tool holster to the hose.
Attach the floor tool to the extension tube.
Push the hose cuff into the hose inlet on the side of the Main body.
