Washing the filters - video

Please follow the steps in the video.

Wash the filters

Press the button on the top of the machine to remove the bin and cyclone.

Pull the pre-filter out from behind the bin.

Press in and hold the filter release button and slide out the post-filter cover.

Wash both filters and the post-filter cover with cold water only.

  • WARNING: Do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.
  • Shake the filter to remove debris and excess water.
  • Repeat the wash/shake cycle until the water runs clear.

Allow to dry naturally for a minimum of 24 hours.

Cleaning modes

Your robot can perform a clean starting from the dock or off the dock.

Start from the dock

With the bin empty, place the machine on its dock.

Press the power button and the machine will begin cleaning the surrounding area.

If necessary, the robot will automatically return to the dock to charge during the cleaning process.

You can pause the clean by pressing the power button. Press it again to resume cleaning.

Start off the dock (no auto charge)

With the bin empty, place the machine on the floor of the room to be cleaned.

Press the power button and the machine will begin cleaning the surrounding area.

When the battery is low the machine will return to its starting point and switch off.

You can pause the clean by pressing the power button. Press it again to resume cleaning.

Charge time is approximate, as it depends on several factors, including the amount of battery charge remaining, the operating temperature and whether the charge occurs before or during a clean.

If the battery runs low during a clean, the robot will return to its dock to recharge. Once fully charged, it will resume the clean. You must start the machine on the dock for automatic charging to occur. If you start the machine away from the dock, the machine will not automatically return to the dock to charge.

Serial number and password location

  • The serial number and passcode can be found on the rear of the instruction manual or on the Main body of the machine behind the bin.

NB: The robots passcode is made up of numbers and lower case letters only, so '0' is definitely the number zero. The number '1' and the letter 'l' (L) may look similar, as may the letters 'j' (J) and 'i' (I).

  • The serial number is listed if you view all devices connected to your network through your router settings on your PC, phone or tablet.
  • The serial number can also be found In the app if you have registered it.

Set up the charger

Open the charging dock to 90° and place it against the wall.

Plug in the charger and wrap surplus cable around the plug.

The charger will fit in either side of the dock.

Ensure no objects are within 50 cm (20 inches) of the charging dock.

Place the machine on the dock.

A blue pulsing light indicates that the machine is charging.

A solid blue light shows when the battery is fully charged.

Taking your machine out of the country of origin

We’ll do everything we can to help if you decide to take your machine abroad, but we don’t recommend it for the following reasons:

  1. The machine has only been tested to comply with the safety regulations of the country of origin
  2. Some countries run a different electricity supply.
  3. Different plugs are used in different countries, and Dyson advise against using a transformer or plug adaptor.
  4. We believe it’s important to offer excellent aftersales support. Not all Dyson territories are able to support all the product ranges, and may not be able to supply parts or repair these products.

It is for these reasons the guarantee expressly states that the machine is only to be used in the country of origin.

To switch ‘ON’, press the power button until the blue lights come on.

To pause and unpause during a clean, press the power button.

When the robot is paused, the pause icon will pulse.

When the robot is cleaning, the pause icon will be solid.

To switch ‘OFF’, press the button until the lights go out.

Preparing the room

Narrow cables and fabric that may become entangled in the brush bar or tank tracks.

Mats and rugs that are particularly thin or those with deep pile, as well as flooring items with tassels.

Light, loose material such as magazines, papers and sharp items that can be sucked into the robot.

Liquid spills, which can cause damage to the robot.

Bags, shoes or other objects that obscure drops in the room.

Fragile items that may be damaged if bumped into by the robot.

NB: The robot cleans using a vision system: so that it can operate successfully, ensure there is adequate lighting in the room

Dock placement

The robot cleans in 5x5m grids, centred on the dock. The machine will clean each 5x5m section before moving on to the next.

Position the Dock against a wall at least 50cm from any furniture or other objects.

The machine must have a clear view of the room from the dock. Do not position it under a table, house plant or other overhanging object.

How the robot navigates

The Robot cleans using a vision system: so that it can operate successfully, ensure there is adequate lighting in the room.

The robot drives out 1m into the room with the Brush bar turned off.

The robot then cleans in 5mx5m grids, centred on the dock. The machine will clean each 5mx5m section before moving on to the next.

It will work around any obstacles in each section until all of the floor space has been covered before returning to the dock.

NB: If you start the machine off the dock, the first grid will be created using the starting point as the centre of the first grid. This will also be the end point of the cleaning session.

Enabling the Dyson skill

Using the Alexa App on your mobile device or the Amazon website, search for "Dyson Skill". Once it appears, select the Dyson Skill and enable it.

You will be prompted to log in to your Dyson account. You should use the account you connected your machine with via the Dyson Link app.

Once you have logged in, follow the on-screen instructions to link Alexa to your Dyson machines.

How does Alexa identify my machine?

Alexa identifies Dyson machines using their room name. The room name is set when you first connect your machine with the Dyson Link app and can be changed using the Link app as well. A list of preset room names are available in the Dyson Link app, such as 'Bedroom' or 'Kitchen'.

For convenience, you can also rename your machine using the Alexa app. However, this does not affect the room name in the Dyson Link app or how you control your machine with voice commands.

To control a specific Dyson machine using voice commands, you can either directly name the machine in your first command or wait for Alexa to ask which machine you are referring to.

If you ask "Alexa, enable auto mode on Bedroom.", Alexa will identify the 'Bedroom' machine and enable the auto mode for it.

If you ask "Alexa, enable auto mode.", Alexa will ask which machine you want to enable the auto mode for.

Disabling the Dyson Skill

You can disconnect Alexa from your Dyson account and machines by disabling the Dyson skill. You can disable the Dyson Skill using the Alexa app or Amazon website.

Please note that you will need to log in to your Dyson account again if you choose to re-enable the skill.

Check if Alexa heard you

If Alexa did not respond to your most recent request, what you said may not have been recognised as a question or command. To make sure Alexa recognises your request, speak clearly and ensure you are close enough to your Echo device for her to hear you.

To check if Alexa is able to hear you, ask "Alexa, did you hear me?".

Check your Echo device

If Alexa is still not responding, please check the following:

  • Make sure you are using the power adaptor that was included with your Echo device.
  • Make sure you have an active internet connection.
  • Ensure your Echo device isn't muted. The indicator light will be red when the device is muted.
  • Move your Echo device to another location away from walls, speakers and other sources of background noise.
  • Unplug your Echo device and plug it back in.

If Alexa is able to hear you, your Echo device should light up with a blue ring after saying "Alexa" to indicate she is listening. If your device has a screen, this will be shown as a blue bar on the display.

Reset your password

If you are unable to log in and link your Dyson account, you may need to reset your password. Select the forgotten password link on the log in screen to be taken through the reset process.

If the password has recently been changed, a 30 minutes period will need to pass before you are able to log back into the Dyson Link app account.

Multiple failures logging into the account (4 or more) will result in the account becoming locked. The account will remain locked for a 30 minute period.

Check for device or setup issues

In order for Alexa to discover your Dyson machine, it must be connected via the Dyson Link app and the Dyson Skill needs to be enabled.

If your machine has not been connected with the Dyson Link app, select the connection journey option to go through these steps.

Your Dyson machine and your Echo device should both be connected to the same Wi-Fi network to allow for discovery.

Check your machine

Turn off your Dyson machine at the wall for 10 seconds. Then turn it back on.

Do the same with your Echo device.

Check that your machine is online by viewing it in the Dyson Link app.

Check the Dyson skill

In the Alexa app on your mobile device, disable and then re-enable the Dyson Skill.

You will need to log into your Dyson account again after re-enabling the the Dyson Skill.

Ask Alexa what she heard

Alexa may have misheard you or misinterpreted something you said as a request. To understand why Alexa just did something, say "Alexa, why did you do that?" or "Alexa, what did you do?".

You can also ask Alexa to read back your most recent request by saying "Alexa, what's the last thing you heard?" or "Alexa, what did you hear?".

You can also view Alexa's activity in the Alexa app on your mobile device. The activity log shows utterances that Alexa heard, responses she gave and actions she took.

Has this resolved the problem?

Alexa learns the more it is used and is always improving its natural voice recognition. Ease of use will improve over time, however some utterances and commands may need to be in a specific format for Alexa to recognise them.

For example, instead of asking "Alexa, turn on oscillation mode.", try asking "Alexa, turn on oscillation.".

This approach can work with other commands as well. Instead of "Alexa, turn on heating mode.", you can ask "Alexa, turn heat on.".

What are some of the things I can do with Alexa?

There are different kinds of directives that users can use to interact with Alexa. Here are some examples:

Turn settings on and off

  • "Alexa, turn on my purifier."
  • "Alexa, turn on night mode."
  • "Alexa, turn off humidification."

Control number settings

  • "Alexa, set the bedroom fan speed to 7."
  • "Alexa, turn up the bedroom fan speed."
  • "Alexa, decrease the bedroom fan speed by 3."

Changing mode settings

  • "Alexa, set oscillation to wide."

Temperature controls (for Dyson heaters)

  • "Alexa, make it warmer in here."
  • "Alexa, make it cooler in here."
  • "Alexa, turn off the heat."

Connect your Dyson machine to your Google Assistant-enabled device

Open the Google Home app and tap the plus icon in the top left. Set up a new device and select "Have something already set up?" Search for "Dyson" and tap to select the Dyson Action.

You'll be prompted to link your Dyson account, this is the one you used to connect your machine to the Dyson Link app.

Follow the instructions in the Google Home app to add your Dyson machines.

How does Google Assistant discover my machine?

When you first connect your Dyson machine to the Dyson Link app you'll give it a room name. You'll find a list of pre-set room names in the app, such as 'Bedroom' or 'Kitchen'. Google Assistant uses this room name to identify your machine.

Google Assistant uses this to name your machine in the Google Home app as well.

How do I control an individual Dyson machine?

To control an individual Dyson machine using voice commands, you can either directly name the machine in your command or say the room name the machine is assigned to in the Google Home app.

If you say "Hey Google, enable auto mode in the Bedroom", Google Assistant will identify the machine named 'Bedroom' or a machine in the bedroom and enable auto mode.

Saying "Hey Google, enable auto mode", will enable auto mode for any purifiers in your current room, if the room is set up in the Google Home app.

Disconnecting your machine from the Google Home app

Open the Google Home app and tap the machine you wish to remove.

Tap the settings icon in the top right and select "Unlink Dyson".

When you remove your Dyson machine from a home:

  • It will disconnect the device from members in the home
  • It will be unlinked from your Google Account
  • Data associated with this device will be deleted. Note: Some basic device data may remain associated with the home.

Check Google Assistant can hear you

Google Assistant may not have heard you or recognised your question or command. Make sure you are close enough to your smart home device and speak clearly.

Check Google Assistant can hear you by asking "Hey Google, what did I just say?". Your smart home device should light up when you say "Hey Google ...". If your device has a screen, you'll see it respond.

Check your smart home device

First, make sure:

  1. Your Google Nest or Google Home speaker or display is powered on and plugged into a wall outlet
  2. The microphone isn't muted
    • For Google Home: on the back of the device, touch the microphone mute button. Your Assistant will say whether the microphone is muted.
    • For Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) and Google Home Mini (1st gen): on the side of the device, toggle the mic switch. Your Assistant will say whether the microphone is muted.
    • For Google Nest Audio: on the back of the device, next to the power cord, toggle the mic switch. Your Assistant will say whether the microphone is muted.
    • For Google Nest displays: on the back of your display, use the switch to turn on the microphone. Your Assistant will say whether the microphone is muted.
  3. The LED dots on top of your speaker or display spins or blinks when you say “Ok Google” or "Hey Google."
  4. If your Assistant answers other questions, try to ask the unanswered question in a different way.

General troubleshooting

If you've checked off all of the steps above and your Assistant still doesn't provide an answer, try one of the steps below and ask your question again. If you still don't get an answer, move to the next step.

Reboot your speaker or display

  1. Disconnect the power cable from your device.
  2. Reconnect the power cable.

Make sure your device recognizes the hotword

Say “Hey Google” to your speaker or display. Check if the LED dots on the top of your device spin or blink, indicating that it recognized the hotword.

Make sure your device recognised the question correctly

  1. Ask your Assistant the question again.
  2. Say "Hey Google, repeat the question" to make sure your Assistant understood you correctly.
  3. If it's still not recognizing the question, try to speak slower or try another question.

Resetting your password

If you aren't able to log in to link your Dyson account to the Google Home app, you may need to reset your Dyson account password.

Select the forgotten password link on the log in screen and follow the instructions.

After changing the password on your Dyson account, you'll need to wait 30 minutes before logging back in.

If you enter the password incorrectly more than four times, your account will be locked. It will be automatically unlocked after 30 minutes.

Check for device or setup issues

Your machine must be connected to the Dyson Link app and the Dyson Action must be enabled for Google Assistant to discover your machine.

If your machine hasn't been connected to the Dyson Link app, open the app and select Add machine. Follow the in-app connection instructions.

Check your machine

  • Unplug your machine and wait for 10 seconds. Plug your machine back in and turn it on.
  • Unplug your smart home device and wait for 10 seconds. Plug it back in.
  • Open your Dyson Link app and check that your machine is online.

Check the Dyson Action

  • Open the Google Home app and check that the Dyson Action is enabled
  • Unlink the Dyson Action and then re-link it

What did Google Assistant hear?

Your command may have been misheard or misinterpreted by Google Assistant. To check this say "Hey Google, show me my activity" to bring up your recent activity, including recent voice commands.

You can also ask Google Assistant to read back the last command by asking "Hey Google, what did you hear?"

What actions did Google Assistant take?

Saying "Hey Google, show me my activity" will show you recent voice commands. You can view the details of each command to see what Google Assistant heard, the responses and actions taken.

Has this resolved the problem?

Google Assistant learns the more you use it but some commands may not be recognised. Try using different words in your command.

For example, if you say "Hey Google, turn on fan motion", and it doesn't work, try saying "Hey Google, turn on oscillation mode".

There are different commands that can be used to interact with Google Assistant, here are some examples:

Turning your Dyson machine on and off

  • "Hey Google, turn on my purifier"

  • "Hey Google, set the bedroom fan speed to 7"

App version

Please ensure you have the latest version of the Dyson Link App installed on your device.

To ensure that you have the most recent version installed on your device, please check the App store for pending updates. If there is no update pending, your app already has the latest version installed.

Please select the appropriate option

If the app is displaying a 'robot offline' or 'robot switched off' message but you believe the robot to be online, please try the following:

  • Click the refresh button on the app.
  • Close down the app and restart.

To fully close down the app in iOS, double click your devices home button and swipe the app upwards.

On an Android device you can fully close down the app in the recent applications menu.

Please ensure when trying to reconnect your robot that it is turned on and Wi-Fi is enabled and working.

Test your Wi-Fi connection by opening a browser window in your device to check that you have a working internet connection. If not, please check your router and home connection and fix your Wi-Fi connection before checking the robot's connection to your app again.

The robot appearing offline may be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection. Please ensure your router and charging dock with your robot are in close proximity to each other. If you are trying to clean rooms that are too far away from your router, you may have to manually move the robot to clean without connected capacity.

To do this, simply place plug the charging dock into the room you want to clean, place the robot on the dock, and press the power button. The robot will then clean your room and return to its dock once completed to charge.

If the robot begins cleaning from a dock placed in an area with Wi-Fi and during its clean moves into an out of range area, this should not cause a problem to the clean. The robot will return to the dock once the clean is completed . However please be aware that if the robot goes out of Wi-Fi range during the clean, you will not be able to remotely control it with the Dyson Link app.

Power cycle

You can power cycle the robot to reset the Wi-Fi. To do this, place the robot on the charging dock, ensuring the battery light illuminates when the robot is on the dock.

Lift the robot off the dock for 10 seconds, then place back on the dock and refresh the Dyson Link app.

If you have gone through the above checks and recommendations, and the robot is now appearing online, please select 'Resolved' .

Otherwise, if you are satisfied that the above criteria and recommendations have already been met but you are still experiencing an issue, please select 'Issue not resolved'.

Problem setting up the app

Please ensure that the device (e.g. iPhone or Android) has a stable internet connection and that you have download the latest version for the Dyson Link app from the Google Play store or Apple iTunes.

The Dyson Link App is compatible with Apple iPhone, Apple iPod touch, Apple iPad and Android mobile phones only.

You will be unable to download the app if you are not running a compatible version of your phone's operating system. Please check the Google Play store page or Apple iTunes store page for a list of compatible devices.

Please also ensure you have sufficient space on your device for the app.

Is this the first time connecting your machine?

The Dyson Link app uses WiFi to connect to your machine.

Dock placement

Open the charging dock to 90° and position the dock against a wall at least 50cm from any furniture or other objects.

Please switch on or place on charge

To begin, please switch on your robot and place it on to charge. Your machine will require power throughout the connection process.

Please ensure the device's flight mode is turned off.

Select your machine by choosing 'Robot vacuums' and then your model of robot.

Remove and replace the robot

Remove and replace the robot from it's dock.

The robot's WiFi light will illuminate blue indicating it is broadcasting. After a 30 second period it is ready to connect.

Please continue to the next screen by selecting 'Okay, got it'

Has the WiFi light illuminated and stayed solid

Home WiFi password

Please have your home WiFi password to hand. You may need this later.

Please ensure the network shown on your screen is your home network, and it does not belong to your Dyson product or to a public network.

You must connect your Dyson product to the same WiFi network that your device is connected to.

Are you connected to your home network?

WiFi settings

To change the WiFi network you are connected to, leave the Dyson Link app and go into your phones settings.

Once in your device's settings, select the WiFi option and choose your home WiFi network.

You must connect your Dyson product to the same WiFi network that your device is connected to.

Please ensure the devices WiFi is activated and that flight mode is turned off.

When you have connected to your home WiFi, please go back to the Dyson Link app and press 'Get started'.

Are you now connected to your home network?

Add a machine

Select 'Get started' on your Dyson Link app.

The Dyson Link app will perform a WiFi scan for products.

Activate WiFi

The machine has its own WiFi signal which must be activated to complete connection.

The robot's WiFi light will illuminate blue indicating it is broadcasting.

Should this no longer be the case, please remove and replace the robot from it's dock.

The robot's WiFi light will illuminate blue indicating it is broadcasting. After a 30 second period it is ready to connect.

Passcode location

The serial number and passcode can be found on the rear of the instruction manual or on the Main body of the machine behind the bin.

Entering the password

After locating your machine's password, please continue to the next screen by selecting 'Okay, got it'

The Dyson Link app will now prompt you to enter the machine's password.

The password contains lower case letters only. The number '1' and the letter 'L' may look similar, as may the letters 'j' and 'i'.

Please select 'Add machine' at the bottom of the screen to begin the connection journey.

Has your device detected your machine?

The machine requires a strong and stable WiFi signal in the home.

If possible, please try relocating the machine closer to your WiFi router. If there is more than one router in the home, ensure you are relocating the machine closer to the router you intend to connection both your machine and device to.

Please ensure that your device remains close to the machine throughout the pairing process and that the machine is plugged in and switched on.

Retrying connection

Press the retry button to make your device scan again for your machine.

Should a error message be dispalyed on your device, the connection process will need to be restarted. Please select 'Activating the WiFi'.

If you have already followed the above advise and are still experiencing an issue, please select 'Issue not resolved'.

Reset the robot's WiFi

Your robot is automatically set to periodically send out a Wi-Fi signal that can be picked up as a local network (also called ‘Wi-Fi’ mode). If desired this mode can be reset by following the instructions below:

Download the 'Reset Wi-Fi' software from the Dyson website on to a USB stick without renaming it. The USB stick must have at least 256MB of free space and must have no other files or folders on it.

The USB stick must be unencrypted and formatted to FAT32 or MS-DOS (FAT)

Please Note: For some web browsers, the file may be displayed in the browser instead of prompting you to download it. If this happens, select ‘File’ then ‘Save As’ (or equivalent steps for your specific browser) to save the file on to your USB

Remove the post-filter from the robot and insert the USB stick into the USB port on the back of the machine

Place the robot on a powered dock and ensure it is charging. Press and hold the power button until a ring of pink lights flash to indicate that the robot has started the upgrade.

The software will automatically reset the Wi-Fi mode.

Once complete the robot will turn off.

Remove the USB and replace the filter and filter cover. The robot is now ready to use as normal

Dock placement

Open the charging dock to 90° and position the dock against a wall at least 50cm from any furniture or other objects.

The machine must have a clear view of the room from the dock. Do not position it under a table, house plant or other overhanging object.

Plug in the charger and wrap surplus cable around the plug. The charger will fit in either side of the dock.

Please ensure the plug is fully inserted into the dock.

The 'power on' indicator panel should illuminate blue on the base of the dock.

Please switch on or place on charge
