How to fit the belt
Ensure the machine is turned off and unplugged before proceeding
Remove the soleplate by unscrewing the 3 screws.
Pull out Brush bar ensuring no damage and remove belt debris.

Attach the new belt to the Brush bar and to the motor pin:
- Loop the belt around your thumb.
- Using the back of the cleaner as a lever, stretch the belt over the motor spindle and release.
- Ensure that the belt is free of twists.

Important: Rotate the Brush bar several times to centralise belt onto the motor spindle.

Refit the Brush bar and make sure the end caps are correctly in place.

Reassemble the soleplate.

Test the Wand
Make sure the machine is standing in the upright position.

Detach the Wand by pressing the release catch and pulling away from the duct.
Turn the machine on and place your hand on the end of the Wand.

Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?
Dyson machines are built to last. However, since July 2011 we have unfortunately no longer been able to supply spare parts, or carry out service or repairs for DC01 or DC02 machines.
Check the Cleaner head
Ensure the machine is turned off and unplugged before proceeding.
Turn the machine over so that it is on its front and you can see the Brush bar.

Undo the 3 screws and remove the soleplate. (If the cradle becomes detached from the soleplate, align circular ends of cradle with corresponding holes of soleplate and slot into place, ensuring that 'front' edge of cradle faces the right direction).

Check through the soleplate openings for blockages and remove as necessary.
Carefully remove entwined cotton, wool or fluff with scissors.

Check belt and Brush bar:
- Spin the Brush bar to ensure no damage. If the Brush bar is damaged select 'part broken'.
- Check the rubber belt is attached and not damaged.

Reassemble and test machine.

Check Cleaner head - step 2
Lift the inspection flap and remove any blockages.
Keeping the inspection flap raised, rotate the Cleaner head so that the opening becomes exposed.

Look through the opening to the side of the Cleaner head and ensure the passage is clear of any blockages.

Check duct, bin and cyclone
Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin by pressing the release catch at the bottom of the bin.

Remove the bin and cyclone
Disconnect the bin and cyclone from the main duct.

Check the bin and cyclone:
- Pull the bin away from the cyclone.
- Carefully empty the bin ensuring the cone inner and seal is attached and not damaged.

Clean the cyclone by using a cloth and tapping gently to disperse any fine dust.
Washing the bin with cold water is optional. Do not wash the cyclone or main duct.

Check the duct opening for blockages and remove as necessary.

Reconnect the bin and cyclone to the main duct.

Retest the machine.

Removing the filters
Unhinge filter cage and lift away pre-filter from the main duct.
Lift yellow bin catch for access to the post motor filter.
If missing, damaged or very dusty select 'part broken'.
Checking the filters
Please note that if the filters are not checked regularly and changed as required, the motor may overheat, which will cause the thermal cut-out to operate.
Replace yellow S-level filter at least once every 3 months and HEPA filter once every 12 months.
Wash both filters in cold water only.
WARNING: Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).
Repeat the steps until the water runs clear. This will normally require up to 10 rinses.
Leave the filters to dry in a warm place for 24 hours, until completely dry.
Replace filters and test machine.

Check duct flap, wand and hose
Place the machine onto its side and lift the central duct flap. Check for blockages and remove as necessary.

To disconnect the Wand and hose, press the Wand release catch and pull away from the main duct. Pull the Wand out of the hose.

Press the release catch at the bottom of the clear bin to remove.

Disconnect the hose by pressing the button behind the bin cavity and pull hose at the back at the same time.

Check the Wand and hose for blockages and remove as necessary. If any parts are damaged choose 'part broken'.

Reassemble and test machine.

When did the machine last have power?
Thermal cut out
Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.
Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin by pressing the release catch at the bottom of the bin.

Remove the bin and cyclone

Check the bin and cyclone:
Carefully empty the bin ensuring the cone inner and seal is attached and not damaged.

Reassemble and test machine.

Assembling your Dyson machine
Connect the hose to the main duct by pushing until it clicks.
Push the wand through the hose and click connect the wand to the main duct.

Cable
Rotate the cable winder to enable the cable to wrap between the cable winder and hose cuff.

Tools
All tools are stored neatly on the storage posts either side of the main duct.

How to attach the accessories
Ensure the machine is in upright position before using tools.
Remove the wand by pressing the release catch and pulling away from the main duct.

Attach tools directly to the Wand.

For cleaning awkward places remove wand and insert tool adaptor into the end of the hose. Attach tool as required.

Carrying your Dyson machine
Ensure clear bin is firmly in place before lifting.
To lift the machine, use the carrying handle on the cyclone top only.

Serial number location
The serial number can be found underneath the machine between the wheels.
