How to wash the filter

With the bin removed, open the filter housing catch.

Run cold water though the open of the filter for approximately for 10 seconds.

WARNING: Do not use detergent. Do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.

Turn the filter upside down and tap 10 times.

Repeat until clean.

Leave filter to dry in a warm place until filter is completely dry.

Do not dry filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven, or near an open flame.

How to use the Musclehead floor tool

The Musclehead will automatically adjust from hard floors to carpets and carpet to hard floors. Therefore it does not need to be manually adjusted for different floor types.

The bleed valves can be opened if there is too much suction. If the performance is poor with the bleed valve open, they should be closed again.

Please note the Brush bar will default to 'On' when the vacuum is switched on.

Checking the Triggerhead floor tool

The Brush bar on the Triggerhead can be turned on and off using the Brush bar ON/OFF button the Wand.

The brushes should be turned on for carpets and off for hard floors.

For use on carpeted flooring, slide the switch on the handle to the 'on' up position.

For use on hard flooring, slide the switch on the handle to the 'off' down position.

With the Triggerhead removed from the extension Wand, use a coin to turn the fastener anti-clockwise to remove the Brush bar.

Clean any hair, thread and debris from the Brush bar and the Triggerhead.

Refit the brushbar and refit the end cap, turning clockwise to lock.

Rebuild and test the machine.

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Test the machine

Remove the hose off the machine and test the machine.

Has removing the hose stopped the noise?

Check the hose and Wand

Check along the length of the hose for blockages and remove as necessary.

With the Wand handle removed, check the openings for blockages and remove as necessary.

Check the extension tube

Detach the extension tube from the Wand and hose by pressing the retaining clips on the Wand and extension tube.

Ensure the extension tube is fully extended.

Look through the extension tube and remove any debris.

Reassemble and test machine.

Check the floor tool

Turn off the power and unplug the machine.

With the floor tool removed, check the inlets for blockages and remove as necessary.

Using a coin, remove the end cap.

Pull the end cap and Brush bar out from the side of the floor tool.

Carefully cut any hair and fibres away from the bristles.

Remove any blockages from the inlet at the base of the Cleaner head.

Re-assemble and test the machine.

Remove the bin and turn on the machine

Remove the bin.

Turn the machine on.

Has removing the bin stopped the noise?

Clean the bin and cyclone

Open the bin base.

Press the release button at the rear of the cyclone and remove the clear bin.

Wash the clear bin with cold water or a damp cloth.

WARNING: Do not use detergents or polish on the clear bin.

Remove any fibres or debris from the cyclone shroud with a dry cloth or soft dusting brush.

WARNING: Do not use any water or other liquids to clean the cyclone.

Inspect the lower duct and flexible hose

Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two Phillips screws on the clear bin locator bracket and remove the bracket. Do not remove any other screws.

Firmly twist the top of the flexible inspection hose away from the inlet next to the ball (do not remove the end next to the connection for the main hose).

Remove blockages as necessary.

Reassemble in reverse order and test the machine.

Test the suction from the extension tube

Remove the floor tool from the extension tube by pressing the release catch on the end of the extension tube.

Press the release catch on the extension tube to extend fully, ensuring it 'clicks' into place.

Test the suction from the extension tube.

Is the noise still present with the floor tool removed?

Check for blockages

This will indicate there is a further blockage in the machine, please see carry out performance checks.

Check the hose and seals

Remove the extension tube from the wand handle by pressing the grey switch on the handle.

Check there are no cracks in the handle.

Remove the hose fully from the machine and check there are no rips or tears in the hose.

Remove the bin fully from the machine and check that the inlet on the machine is not damaged.

Check the inlet located on the Main body of the machine, ensure the seal is not torn.

Check the lower duct hose is not torn or twisted.

Remove the clear bin and cyclone from the machine by pressing the red catch located on top of the cyclone. Check that the bin base seal is not damaged or missing.

Attach the hose and bin to the machine ensuring they both click into place.

Turn the machine on.

Clean the bin and cyclone

Remove the clear bin from the cylinder.

Empty the clear bin

Place the bin inside a bag, close the bag around the bin and press the button to release the dust and debris.

Shake or tap firmly to remove all dust and debris from inside the bin and fine dust collector.

Remove the bin

With the bin base open, press the silver button to separate the bin from the cyclone

Clean the cyclone

Check the fine dust collector for blockages and remove as necessary.

Clean the shroud with a dry cloth or by using the combination tool.

WARNING: Do not use any liquids to clean the cyclone.

Clean the bin

Clean the bin with cold water only.

WARNING: do not use any detergents or polishes on the bin.

Rebuild and test the machine.

How to wash the filter

Have any parts from the machine been washed recently?

Using the cable

Ensure the machine is switched off.

Unplug the machine before rewinding the cable.

If the cable does not rewind, firmly pull it out and fully extend it until the red tape is visible.

The cord rewind button needs to be pressed down firmly to retract the cord for storage after use. When the button is pressed down far enough you should feel and hear a click, and the cord will retract.

Although the suction seemed to be strong from the extension tube, there appears to be no fault with the floor tool. We therefore recommend that the rest of the machine should be checked.

Check the floor tool, extension tube and ducts

With the floor tool removed, check the openings on the tool for blockages and remove as necessary.

Separate the extension tube from the Wand handle by pressing the release catch on the extension tube.

Remove the Wand handle from the hose by pressing the release catch on the hose.

Remove the hose from the machine by pressing the release catches on the hose.

Check the extension tube, wand handle and hose for blockages and remove as necessary.

Checking the ducts

Check the upper duct by removing the bin and cyclone.

Check the lower duct for blockages and remove as necessary.

The lower duct hose

Perform coin drop to ensure lower duct is clear of any blockages.

Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two Phillips screws on the clear bin locator bracket and remove the bracket. Do not remove any other screws.

Firmly twist the top of the flexible inspection hose away from the inlet next to the ball (do not remove the end next to the connection for the main hose).

Remove blockages and reassemble in reverse order.

Checking the carbon fibre turbine head

There is no need to turn the Brush bar on and off for different floor types the floor tool has a row of anti-static carbon fibre filaments to remove fine dust from hard floors, and stiff nylon brushes remove ground-in dirt from carpets. There's no need to turn the Brush bar off when moving from one floor type to another.

Remove the Turbine head from the extension Wand by pressing the release catch. Use a coin to turn the fastener anti-clockwise and remove the Brush bar.

Clean any hair, thread and debris from the Brush bar.

Check the opening on the Cleaner head for blockages and remove as necessary.

Refit the Brush bar and refit the end cap, turning clockwise to lock.

Rebuild and test the machine.

Remove the Turbine head from the machine by pressing the release catch. Use a coin to turn the fastener anti-clockwise and remove the Brush bar.

Carefully remove the Brush bar and clear any debris. Be careful of any sharp objects.

Refit the Brush bar and lock the end cap in place by turning the end cap clockwise.

Refit the Cleaner head on the machine.

Correct Wand position

When the Wand is in a vertical position, the dual mode floor tool may not adjust between hard floor and carpet modes.

If the machine is powered on and the head is in ErP MAX mode, it will be difficult to change the floor mode of the Cleaner head.

Ensure the power is turned off and the Wand is in a normal vacuuming position as shown, and retry adjusting the dual mode between hard floor and carpet positions.

Cleaning the bin and cyclone

Remove the bin from the machine by pressing the bin release catch located to the side of the bin.

Open the bin base by pressing the red button, then press the grey button behind the cyclone to remove the clear bin fully.

Clean the clear bin with cold water only.

WARNING: Do not use detergents.

Using a dry cloth, wipe the shroud assembly.

WARNING: Do not wash the cyclone assembly.

Place the clear bin back on the cyclone and close the bin base. Refit on to the machine.

Checking the floor tool openings.

With the Turbine head removed, check the openings on the tool for blockages and remove as necessary.

Check the extension tube, Wand handle and hose for blockages.

Separate the extension tube from the Wand handle by pressing the release catch on the Wand handle.

  • Remove the bin from the cylinder.
  • Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the covering for the lower hose.
  • Remove the tube from the cylinder.
  • Check the lower duct for blockages and remove.
  • Reattach the hose and cover.

Empty as soon as the dirt reaches the level of the MAX mark - do not overfill.

Emptying the bin

Remove the bin by pressing the release button to the side of the carry handle.

To release the dirt, press the red bin release button.

To minimise dust/allergen contact when emptying, encase the clear bin tightly in a plastic bag and empty.

Remove the clear bin carefully, seal the bag tightly and dispose of as normal.

Close the clear bin base so it clicks into place and is secure.

Replace the clear bin and cyclone back into position on the front of the Main body.

The recess in the base of the clear bin must fit onto the lug on the locator bracket.

Push the carrying handle down so it clicks into place on the top of the clear bin and cyclone ensuring it is secure.

Carry the machine by the main handle on the body.

Do not press the cyclone release button or shake the machine when carrying or the cyclone could disengage, fall off and cause injury.

Using the Carbon fibre floor tool

There is no need to turn the Brush bar on and off for different floor types, the floor tool has a row of anti-static carbon fibre filaments to remove fine dust from hard floors, and stiff nylon brushes remove ground-in dirt from carpets. There's no need to turn the Brush bar off when moving from one floor type to another.

How to use the Musclehead floor tool

The Musclehead will automatically adjust from hard floors to carpets and carpet to hard floors. Therefore it does not need to be manually adjusted for different floor types.

The bleed valves can be opened if there is too much suction. If the performance is poor with the bleed valve open, they should be closed again.

Using the Triggerhead floor tool

The Brush bar on the Triggerhead can be turned on and off using the Brush bar ON/OFF button the Wand. The brushes should be turned on for carpets and off for hard floors.

For use on carpeted flooring, slide the switch on the handle to the 'on' up position.

For use on hard flooring, slide the switch on the handle to the 'off' down position.
